Peggy Porschen’s heavenly Belgravia parlour, which sits prettily on the corner of Elizabeth Street and Ebury Street, is the perfect place in London to treat yourself to coffee and cupcakes while people-watching on the pavement, or pick up a stunning layer cake for a special occasion like a birthday or anniversary.

But did you know, this sweet boutique bakery also serves delicious afternoon tea with baked goods including indulgent cakes, Cornish clotted cream scones and all the savoury trimmings?

Okay so they look amazing, but the best news is they taste even better. There’s a reason Peggy is the award-winning cake maker of choice for everyone from Sir Elton John to royal families across the world. Plus there is a great tea selection to choose from too, from Belgravia Breakfast and Earl Grey to caffeine-free infusions of peppermint and summer berry. Not to mention the option to elevate the occasion with a glass of Laurent-Perrier champagne or Mirabeau sparkling wine.

The tea menu is seasonal so sweet-toothed fans can keep coming back, and be delighted each time with different artistic themes and flavours. Happily the parlour caters to all sorts of dietary requirements too, whether that’s vegetarian, vegan or gluten-free. There is also a special menu just for little ones, with perfectly sized portions for children.

Served from midday until 4.30pm, you can indulge at the classic tea-time hour or take an earlier sitting in lieu of lunch.  There is even a unique morning tea menu for early birds, cleverly serving up brunch bites like smashed avocado on toast and buttermilk pancakes with maple syrup.

One of the reasons we adore Elizabeth Street are all the independent brands, and the same ethos should apply when shopping for food or eating out. We love that Peggy Porschen is still run by husband and wife dream team Peggy and husband Bryn Morrow.

German-born Peggy had always dreamed of running a bespoke cake company since she was a child; a vision which became reality in 2003 when the Le Cordon Bleu-trained patisserie chef founded the now-famous Peggy Porschen cake business. The now-iconic boutique on Belgravia’s Elizabeth Street soon followed in 2010, selling not just cakes but also freshly made pastries, biscuits, cookies and other beautifully crafted food to dessert lovers travelling from both near and far.

3. Insta-worthy perfection

As loyal fans of the Queen of Cakes know, Peggy Porschen is the place to be seen, whether that’s sitting indoors or dining al fresco. The pink parlour and Peggy’s floral, magical creations are a must-snap for creating colourful content for socials and selfies on TikTok and Instagram.

Less trad than other more traditional afternoon teas served in a formal hotel setting, we love that you can also skip the queue at the door by booking a table in advance.

4. The great value

We think the price of the afternoon tea is pretty amazing value for what you get. And there’s no need to worry about waste. If you can’t finish all the delicious plates in one sitting, our top tip is to ask the team to box up any leftover scones, cakes or finger sandwiches to take home in one of Peggy’s distinctive pink boxes.

5. Combine tea with a shopping spree

The parlour is the perfect place to relax and refuel while enjoying Belgravia’s legendary shopping districts. There’s something to suit everyone from nearby fashion stores on Elizabeth Street like WNU, Cubitts, Penelope Chilvers and newly opened Cefinn; to the interiors haven that is Pimlico Road. Not forgetting, of course, the wellness and beauty hub of Eccleston Yards just around the corner, where shoppers can pamper themselves at SMUK or Re:Mind with a blow-dry or meditation class, after working up a sweat at Barry’s Bootcamp or Psycle.

For those stretching their legs just a little further, the shops of Motcomb Street and West Halkin Street beckon. With a leisurely walking distance of less than 10 minutes, there are even more new retail openings  to discover from Labeca and Coco de Mer to gorgeous womenswear space Salt.

The only question left to ask if how can I get there, and how quickly? Fortunately the Peggy Porschen parlour is under 10 minutes’ walk from both Sloane Square tube station and Victoria train station; and is also easily walkable from Hyde Park Corner on the Picadilly line. Plus those coming from further afield by bus are in for a pleasant surprise, given that the parlour is the shortest of strolls from Victoria Coach station.

Is Peggy Porschen dog-friendly?

Whilst handsome hounds can’t join their humans inside the parlour, dogs are very much welcome on the outdoor tables. Just be sure that pooches stay on the lead and keep their paws on the floor, as pups aren’t allowed a seat at the table.

There’s no need to worry about what to wear, as the café operates an informal smart or casual dress code, meaning that dresses and heels are equally as appropriate as smart loungewear and a snazzy pair of trainers (if you’re coming straight from the school run!)
