Re:Mind’s Almira & George of The Sound Shift have collated their top 3 anxiety relief tips to coincide alongside Mental Health Awareness Week:
Focus on the Present Moment
Focus on the present moment. Anxiety can often be heightened when we project ourselves into a future that hasn’t happened yet or the past, distracting us from what is happening right now. Dropping into the present moment with mindfulness techniques can really help us to manage symptoms. You can practice mindfulness by paying attention to your breath, your body, or your environment. A few minutes of present moment awareness can shift your state completely.
Breathe Deeply and Mindfully
Breathe. When you feel anxious, your breathing may become shallow and rapid. This can make you feel more nervous and tense. To calm yourself down, practice deep breathing exercises. Inhale deeply through your nose and exhale slowly through your mouth. Repeat this several times until you feel more relaxed. Deep breathing can help lower your heart rate, blood pressure, and stress levels.
Sound Therapy
Sound therapy can help reduce anxiety by inducing relaxation, calming your nervous system, and altering your brain-wave patterns. Some examples of sound therapy are soundbaths, sound meditations and music therapy. Sound therapy’s popularity is growing and you can find plenty of sessions in-person, or you can even create your own sound therapy playlists at home. Trying sound therapy can help you feel more at ease and harmonious.
